I would appreciate any help that I can get.

I have never purchased a Serial ATA hard drive before, but I just purchased one, and set it up. Now the BIOS is recognizing it, but windows isn't. Can I set-up a serial drive as a secondary drive??

This was my initial plan, but after that failed, I decided to just try and install windows on it, but my windows CD is not recognizing it during the installation. Instead, I just see my IDE drives.

Hopefully, you guys will berate me for making some stupid mistake. This problem has confounded me pretty well.

When you are installing Win/XP you will see a prompt that says press F6 if you have SCSI or other drivers that need to be loaded. Hit F6 and when WinXP prompts you to, insert the floppy disk that contains the appropriate SATA driver that came with your motherboard. Then Windows will be able see the drive.

Wow...

Thanks...

That nearly solves my problems. I noticed that prompt, but I didn't catch exactly what it said. Now my problem is that I don't have a floppy drive, or a CD burner. I could get one, but can I bypass such a shortcoming??

EDIT: I may have those drivers on CD...I forgot to look for them before I wrote this reply.

They should be on the CD that came with your motherboard. If not, check your motherboard web site, and they should have the driver there for download.

It is possible to create a "slipstreamed" winxp installation CD, which is a custom WinXP CD that contains the Sata driver, but you already said you didn't have a CD burner.

I don't believe you can use a USB storage key as a substitute for the floppy drive. Short of having a friend make you a slipstreamed CD, your best bet would be to pick up a cheap floppy drive and use that.

I will probably end up doing that, but I was wondering if I can set up my SATA drive to be my secondary drive, and run windows from the drive that I am currently running it from.

I tried to install the drivers inside of windows, and I found an option for a "VIA serial RAID controller". I want to be able to use the SATA drive, but I don't want to make a RAID configuration, so is it still safe to install this.

If I install these drivers, will I be able to run windows on the current IDE HD that I am running it on. (At least until, I am ready to switch)

EDIT: OK...I tried to install the drivers while still in windows, and they installed, and they sent me to a place to set up a RAID. That program recognizes my HD, but windows still doesn't. It says that it is functioning properly.

I would prefer not to install windows on this new drive just yet.

Can I get windows to recognize it??

EDIT2: Well Windows does recognize it in the device manager, but it still isn't in my computer.

EDIT3: I pressed F6 in the windows installation, and it asked me to put the disk in the A drive. I don't have a floppy drive, so I put it in the CD drive, and it couldn't find it. I have no idea what to do now. Nothing seems to work.

EDITp: I feel like a dolt. I simply forgot to allocate the space. The problem was fixed in about 20 seconds with partitian magic.

THANKYOU FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!
