SATA Drive taking forever to format

My bare drives came with no disks or documentation so I just started installing XP. It is a brand new SATA Western Digital 80 GIG drive. I choose the long format and starts normal pace. Hangs around 95% and proceeds to take hours to go even 1%.

At first I figured the frive was bad so I tried another one and It does the EXACT same thing. I figured that too big a coincidence so I thought maybe the SATA controller was bad swapped out the mobo and I'm still having the issues.

anybody have any ideas?

I recently bought and installed a new WD 80GB SATA disc. I created three partitions and formatted all in NTFS. Took but a few minutes for each. Have you tried running WD's hard drive utility to check the health of the drives?
