SATA drive problems; need advice

I've partitioned a WD120 into a C, D, E drive. C contains Windows XP, D contains my program files and E is for ordinary files. Everything was working fine until I tried to ghost my C drive to an IDE drive with Norton Ghost.

After setting all the pertinent things to begin ghosting, the system rebooted and began ghosting . . . but stopped, saying there was an error (forgot the exact error). [I tried backing up the C drive using Administrative Tools, but it, too, started and stopped because of some error}.

Okay, usually at this point I would just choose to open Windows normally. But now, after the Windows XP screen shows it goes directly to a black screen. The only thing showing is my cursor.

Now I cannot get past this screen. Any ideas what might have happened and . . . more importantly, how I can boot from my WD120?

(The only thing I can think might have happened is when I used Norton Utilities Windows repair, it might have changed something. When CHKDSK comes on, it checks the D and E drive, and everything is okay)

HELP!!
