SATA drive fragmented all the time

I just put built a computer specs :

Asus A7V8X
AMD Barton xp2500
Maxtor 120 gig SATA drive (Single non raid)
512 2700 Kingston DDR
Radeo 9600 128mb
Asus 52X CD-Rom
Lite-On CDRW
WinXP Pro

I have updated the BIOS and ALL drivwers are upto date. I have had not a single error.
It scored 4200 on 3Dmark 2003
The problem is it is fragmenting alot. I can defrag and reboot and have 2% alread fragmented. I am only using 7 gig of the hard drive.
Is this normal for SATA drives?
On my other systems (all IDE) they dont seem to get fraged that fast.
