Ok, I have 2 hard drives an ata and a sata drive. My computer has been shutting down on me, it does this every now and then when i game at high resolutions. And then I would just turn it back on. Then yesterday it started doing this (wasn't even gaming) and when I would turn the power back on it would shut off in 2 seconds. So I fooled around with it and found when i disconnect my sata drive the comp turns on and stays on just fine. You should also know I downloaded the newest drivers from nvidia to my sata drive the other day, and I still have the old ones on the hd I'm using now. I would delete the drivers from my sata drive but my comp won't start when that's connected. I need that hard drive because all my stuff is on that one, pictures, movies, music

specs:
chaintech MK8T890 mobo
6600gt pci-express
430w rosewill power supply
amd 3400+

Hate to say it, but it sounds like the PSU can't handle the extra load, tho that is odd. What are your PSU rails after it is running say 1/2 hour?

Well, its has to be a matter of a few things.

1/ Could be a bad drive.

2/ Could be the PSU isn't keeping up.

3/ Could be a bad sata cable.

4/ Could be the Motherboard itself.

It Shouldn't be/ Heat related, as it does it at boot correct?

Shouldn't be the OS, if it is acting up at initial boot.

So, Maybe try a different sata cable if you have 1.

Boot without the sata drive connected, and either monitor the voltage rails of the PSU in bios or in the OS.

That would be a good start to defining the problem I think.

Well I think it might be the sata drive :(

I tried turning my comp on with only the power connected to the sata and with the sata cable disconnected, and I tried it with the cable connected and the power input disconnected, both ways my computer shuts down.

There also seemed to be some purplish burn marks on a certain portion of the sata drive's circuit board. It wiped off but there is still some minor discoloration.

So if it is my hard drive, is there any way to transfer the information on it to another hard drive?

Not that I know of, If the info on the drive is Vital, I believe that Online you may find a date retrieval service. Other than that, I don't have a clue. Sorry.

Could I take the disk inside the hard drive out and put it in another one of the same type?
