Sata drive - broken connector

Okay, I have just broken the SATA data connector (By accident!) on a Raptor drive.

Anyway to get it up and going? Or do I get to cross my fingers and hope WD will authorize a RMA?

It's funny I should see a thread about this. When I unplugged my Hitachi SATA drive, somehow several of my pins were severely bent. When I attempted to carefully push them back, one broke off...

Luckily I know someone who knew how to solder it back on...I have yet to test it to see if the drive will still work or not...I'm not a big fan of SATA connectors...The pins are far too fragile...They bend very easily...

The connectors are fine. It's just the damn plastic backing.

Hot glue... 😉 Actually WD is supposed to have some sort of fancy cable that is supposed to compensate for a broken data connector. And I agree with the above that the plastic parts of the standard SATA data connectors are WAY too fragile. I consider that a design defect which is covered under warranty.

Fancy cable, eh?

It may be worth buying that, i've heard about it. Interesting. But I'll definitely see if I can get it repaired/replaced from WD first.

thanks!
