SATA Controler

I wanted to have SATA raid 0+1 but i have an old MOBO. I am not willing to pay $150-200 for a MOBO then $150 for a new Processer And on to of that I would have to pay for new HDD's. I wanted to save $$$ and get a SATA conroller card w/ RAID 0+1 (Kind of like a SCSI Controller card) but is there even such a thing?

You have to get a 4-channel SATA card to get RAID 0+1 - the two channel cards can only do 0 OR 1.

Here is that list: 4-channel SATA

I prefer ones based on SiliconImage logic chips as they can work with SATA optical drives as well as hard drives, but since you are going to do 0+1 which requires 4 HDs, then that won't matter as much. IAC, SIL really has the PATA/SATA chipset mojo. If you look at the image gallery of the first card in the list (Syba), you can see the SiliconImage logo on the big chip in case the chipset is not mentioned in the listing. I buy Syba most of the time. You may occasionally get a lemon but the Egg will make that right pronto. Hard to beat for the money.
. But if you really need to spend more, I love Tekram SCSI adapters, so I'd expect their SATA cards would be good as well.

I'd suggest checking your local Mom & Pop computer stores. Their cables should be much cheaper than at the big box stores. Typical online price is from $2.00 up for a standard 18 to 20 incher. Search at any site on- red SATA cable -and you should get a listing of most of the generic types they have - to get ALL sata cables, try this- "sata cable" . The generic red 18" unit is $1.50 at SVC.

If you HAVE to buy online, try adding some to your Newegg or other order. Newegg's lowest price SATA cable is ~$2.50. See what that does to your shipping cost. If they add more than $2. or 3. to your shipping, then try http://www.jab-tech.com or http://www.svc.com as they will ship small items by first class mail uninsured (if you ask - and you have to be willing to assume shipping risks) to save you on shipping. And both have large selections if you might want something better than generic. Avoid Belkin brand as they are just fancily-packaged (and accordingly overpriced) generics.
