SATA card doesn't seem to work

I bought a pci SATA card, this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PX9BX2

I can't seem to get it to work correctly. I needed a couple of extra SATA slots, I already have all 6 used on my motherboard, so I figured I would get a cheap one and put my dvd drive on it.

The card is able to recognize the drive during boot-up, however the system gets stuck at "loading operating system" for some reason. If I remove the dvd drive from the SATA card, then my system boots up normally.

could be the card does not support optical drives, I have seen some of them not support it, I looked in the manual but it does not state if it does or not. could email vantec and see.
