And Paypal is so much more secure? :)

There might possibly be problems with using cables that are too short, just like you aren't supposed to use Ethernet patch cables less than I believe a half meter long, and between nodes should be at least 2.5 meters. Are the usual 1 footish cables not short and flexible enough?

I recently ordered a LOT of cables and RJ45 jacks from monoPrice.com . I was totally blown away by their prices, packaging, shipping speed, communication, etc.

Viewing the above product search link, you'll see a 9-inch SATA cable for $1.45. Sorry, no black or 6-inch ones....

They were recommended by several people on FW as a reliable, ultra-low-cost, cable vendor. Their shipping is VERY reasonable, too. Take a look at their 9.45 ResellerRatings.

Note:
Wow. I just noticed they are selling a PCI-E Si3132 SATA controller card for $23 that supports hotswap and Server 2003. That price is about half of what everybody else is charging for these PCI-E cards.

I want the shorter cable to help with cable management in my new rig. Also in regards to paypal vs my credit card with paypal i have to make a paymentie if i give them my credit card info they can take money and charge up a storm. With paypal i have to make a payment first they cant just charge at will. I didnt mean to say it was safer in general.

I am in the same boat. Shorter cable or taller case! I would prefer a shorter cable!

Maybe call up Shuttle and ask if you can buy some of those extra short SATA cables they use in their mini systems.

The only thing I wish as far as SATA cables is some kind of locking or positive click mechanism just so you know it's in as far as it will go and/or needs to be... other than that yeah sata rules the world!

Depending your mainboard or add-in card, it might support a locking cable. Those started showing up not long after SATA came out in the real world (guess in all the years of development nobody thought about whether those dinky little plastic connectors might fall out). I don't know if any drives actually can have locking connectors though; Western Digital has a "secure" connector which ends up using the SATA power socket to help hold it on so you can't use the SATA power socket. Smart.

StarTech, among others, sells latching SATA cables. I have several of them. They connect to standard SATA connectors on drives and solidly lock. At least, they work fine on my Seagate 7200.10 SATA drives and on my Apricorn External SATA housing. However, they don't lock on my HighPoint RocketRAID 1820a controller and I can't tell if they work on a generic SATA 3112 PCI controller with external SATA connector.
