SATA cable sleeving?

I just finished sleeving my psu after 12 hours of work (finished up this afternoon). It was a real pain. Unfortunately, I didn't have a tool to disconnect the SATA power connectors. I purchased the Sunbeam tool kit recommended on AT at Xoxide. I also was not able to remove two pins (of four) from the four-pin ATX molex connector. So, I had to cut and solder the wires. I was not happy with the results, but remember this was my first time. The heatshrink that I used on the SATA cable had to fit over the SATA connector so when heated it it did not fit real tight. I was just doing the best that I could with the materials I had. Anyone have any recommendations on how to do a better job of sleeving a SATA cable?

Many auto supply stores offer spiral wrap (sometimes call wire loom) in many colors. Goes on a whole lot easier than sleeving/etc.

Yup, Home depot has spiral wrap too. I used it in my guide to case wiring. It's sticked at the top of this forum.

It sure beats shrink wrap. You can wrap several cables at once, and have them exit selectively at different points. It's also completely reusuable.

I don't know what you mean by needing the shrink wrap to fit over the sata connector. If you actually CUT the sata cable, just pick another one. Cutting and reconnecting the cable means you're introducing more resistance into the line. ATX specifications have a very small voltage tolerances. I don't know how critical it is for a HDD, but I'd say just take a fresh one, and choose a better way to route the cable.

Thanks for all your comments. No, I did not cut the sata cable and really did not want to just to sleeve it. Without cutting the cable you have to fit the sleeving and heatshrink over the connectors. Also, I'm really not enamoured with the look of spiral wrap. Yeah I know... function over form is usually my mantra. 🙂
