SATA cable or port causing corruption; how to verify source?

I used to have some very slight corruption (eg files redownloading because checksums failed) and there were some suspicious errors in windows event viewer (but not many) from normal use. All the errors stopped when I changed either the SATA cable or the SATA port or both of the OS HDD.

It has been many years since then and the only thing I now know is that the SATA cable+port I use now is fine. But I would like to add an another drive, so I was thinking of testing different cables/ports to see if I can identify any errors before usage.

What software should I use to identify a bad cable/port efficiently? I have an unformatted SSD available for this purpose.

Just make a 700MB or more archive file of anything you have handy.
Then do a test on that archive file, and if all is well, you won't get errors.
You can use WinRar or 7Zip for this.

That is the easiest way to do it.
