Two identical computers. Abit NF7-S2 with 200GB Western Digital SATA hard drives. I installed the XP with no problem, didn't need to load the drivers from floppy. Both computers show the Add/Remove hardware icon (the grey disk with green arrow over it) in the taskbar notification area. I'm building these computers for young kids and would rather these didn't show up as removable which will only tempt them to try it. I've installed the SATA drivers off of Abit's site but the icon still appears. In device manager the "Optimize for performance" option is selected, "Otimize for quick removal" is obviously unchecked.

Any ideas on how to get windows to stop making these drives appear as removable?

They are hot swappable, so the icon is normal.

You should be able to right click in the area, select "properties", select "hide inactive icons", then click on the "customize" button.

You can then choose options for each icon. Choose "always hide" for the safely remove hardware icon.

The above should be under the "Taskbar" tab, not the "Start Menu" tab.
