SATA-300

Title says it all...I'm getting ready to jump on a SATA-300 HDD, but I want to make sure that the 300 interface is backward compatible with 150.

Thanks.

If you have a mb with sata 150 would it be better to get a sata 300 or a pata 100 drive all other things being equal?

cparker, I think it would be better to go ahead and get the SATA-300 drive. You'll still be able to take advantage of the data integrity checking and thin cables that SATA gives you that PATA doesn't.

Thanks! I got a Sata 300 Seagat 160. I looked at the docs about the jumpers and it said that the jumper block was just for "factory" use. No mention about 150 vs 300 mother boards. So I just installed it with the sata cable. It works fine. (MB is ECS Nforce3-A). Very nice.

Jumper there = SATA 150. Remove it and you get SATA 300. There is no speed difference. I tested in my 7200.9s.

I'm too lazy to pull it out with my 7200.10s (RAID-0), so I just don't bother... it's fine
