sata @300

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me how you can get sata drive to run at 300.

I have the Giga mobo and a maxtor 6V160EO hard drive which is rated at 300.

It seems my system runs it at 150 and in system properties it is shown as capable of udma6 but running at udma5.

Is there anything I can do.

Many thanks.

Oh, ignore my system specs they are way out of date and I cannot seem to change them in my profile.

What is this system properties you speak of (Device Manger)? Where does it say what the max capability is?

It could be a HDD jumper or firmware setting or a CMOS setup option.

Yes it is device manager that shows it as udma5. It is sandra 7 that tells me it is capable of udma6.

There are no jumpers for this on the drive itself that I can tell nor can I find anything in the bios that refers to udma.

I am sure someone must know, maybe it is only in raid form that it can achieve udma6. Oh I have not loaded the raid drivers because it is not in a raid configuration.

Many Thanks.

I have to admit to ignorance here as I have not heard of udma 6 before, I assume it is something related to gig per second and of course sata.

Can anyone explain or point me to a page that will tell me how the chipset ( 945 for instance ) determines the speed of the hard drive.

Many thanks

The drive is not running at 300.. The Interface is. the drive is actually running at IDE speed (because SATA drives are IDE ones using SATA interface to the IDE controller.) which is about something aroung 50-60MB/s
