SATA 3.0 Gb/s vs SATA 150

i'm looking to build a new comp and i'm don't know which way to go for my hard drive choice. i don't really know anything about SATA 3.0 Gb/s or SATA 150, could you guys give me some tips and suggestions. anything would be apperciated.

SATA 3.0Gbps is part of the specification on the SATA2. Although its OPTIONAL for manufactuerers to put 3.0Gbps transfer rate.

3.0Gbps transfer rate is referred to as 300MB

So SATA 3.0Gbps is really SATA300, so theoretically double the speed of SATA150. In real world, it is faster, but not much.

In the real world, I will be extremely surprised if the additional bandwidth helps anything at all.

its like agp8x and pci-e there isnt any real performance because agp8x hasnt been utalized same when people have a agp 4x mobo and a 8x card there is no performance loss. pata hasnt even been properly utalized.

So SATA 3.OGbps = Sata II? I'm trying to pick out a HDD for my Epox nforce 4 ultra, but it does not accept SATA 150. Just Sata II. Yet I saw no such listing as "Sata II" in newegg's selection of HDD's.

SATA300 is backward compatible. Don't worrya bout that

It will only help you if you plan to build RAID otherwise the bandwidth is useless to you. Actually there is one more case when it comes handy and that is the fact that 3Gbps controllers have to be integrated onto a faster bus than PCI so your HDD's won't put a heavy load on PCI bus.

Well for the RAID it wouldn't help because for 2 HDD RAID 0 there would be 2 separate 3Gb channel. IT's not likt there are 2 HDD running off 1 SATA channel of 3Gb so the scaling does not introduce bottleneck

Anand recently published a little article on that. SATA II is the name of the organisation. What is called SATA II as a standard is actually SATA 2.5. The standard however is very loose on the specs. You have to carefully check if your SATA II / SATA 2.5 chipset and HDD do include 3.0 Gb/s and or NCQ. Needless to say, if one or the other doesn't support both featuress, you have not. Also be sure to check if the drives you want require a real SATA power plug.

Now how can you say that? You can have as many dedicated SATA ports on a PCI integrated controller and you can try everything you can do but the PCI wouldn't be able to provide more than 132MBps in total.

No it isn't. SATA II is not a speed spec.
