SATA 3.0 backwards compatible?

Building up an out-of-date system for wife, board supports SATA 150 with RAID 0/1 but newegg only has like one SATA 150 hdd listed! I completely missed that phase out I guess, but will the newer SATA drives work fine with the board?

Yes they're backwards compatible. Better idea would be to pick a SATA I drive in the FS/FT forum

The drives are backwards compatible, you have to set a jumper on the drive to force the drive to 1.5Gbps mode.

And it works both ways - i.e., the SATA controller. A SATA II controller will manage SATA I drives as well.

Only with VIA VT8237 and SIS 694 Southbridges. These are the only Southbridges that had a flaw with auto-detection and SATA II 3.0 drives. The VT8237R+ (plus) revision fixed this as did the SIS 695 and later. VT8251 is not affected as it supports SATA II 3.0.

Don't notice this thread when I posted mine. Do you have to set the jumper on the drive to use it on an older SATA board? Mine seems to be working without doing that (just installed it yesterday).

Usually it works. A handful of SATA150 controllers can't deal with 3.0Gbps drives, and in that case you'll need to jumper the drive to make it work properly. But if you installed it and it's working, then you should be fine.
