I bought a SATA2 harddrive thinking I'll get NForce4 Ultra motherboard when I build my system. But I bought a Dimension 9100 instead of building my system. I think Dimension 9100 supports SATA1. Can I add SATA2 drive to te motherboard?

Also, does SATA1 and SATA2 use the same cable? The interface on my SATA2 drive looks bigger than interface on the harddrive in my Dimension 9100.

Thanks.

Yes it'll work. Normally if the cables and everything will physically fit, you won't have any problems with compatiblity.

The thought did cross my mind ... I was gonna try it when I found I had no cable ... the drive I bought was OEM and didn't come with cables ... and DELL didn't give me any extra cables ... I notices the connector on my drive was slightly different than the connector on the DELL drive ... which is why I wanted to clear this up.

yes it should work as from what i have read most of the sataII stuff you have to turn on so at this point in time they usually come set up as sataI. again, this is from what i have read and not personal experience.
