There's no speed difference between them, the sata drive has a tiny cable and thats the only good thing about it. If your mobo doesnt support sata natively you'll need a boot disk to install an os, thats my only gripe with sata.
Other then that i'd get the ide since its bigger.

Not much a difference UNLESS...
If you have a mobo that supports NCQ and a Hard Drive with NCQ than you will notice a difference.
NCQ = Native Comman Queue

Basically the HD will reorganize the order in which to retrieve data more effieciently.

I/O wise, you will not see a difference. IDE is easier to install as a boot drive but many people have no problem setting up an SATA drive especially if your Mobo is SATA native. SATA is hot-swappable but I'm not sure who's really taking advantage of that in a home computer. SATA 's interconnect is slimmer so you may benefit from if you have a cramp case. NCQ will not really help unless you are running a server or a comp or programs that needs alot of disk access....even then we are talking micro secs. Neither are any "safer" than the other (depending on what you mean by "safer").

Buy the larger storage.

sata maybe the future when the hd are much higher in density then the 150mb/sec will be a little more useful. most hd utilize only ata100 and never even sustain more then 25-50mb/sec both writing and reading.
