SAT tutoring, does it work?

I am thinking about getting or going to a SAT tutoring center to help me score higher on the SAT. Do you guys believe these tutoring institution works? Thanks.

your time would be much better spent just reading a book or something, cultivating your mind with actual thoughts, instead of being able to answer multople choice questions on a standardized test

I actually found the English SAT tutor I took to be quite helpful, but it wasnt anything I couldnt have done on my own. Its a matter of motivation. If you think you could sit yourself down a couple hours a week and work through a book, by all means save your money.

But for others, that added push of a tutor might just be what the doctor ordered.

Best way to prepare imo is just to keep taking practice tests over and over. That's all that the tutoring sessions pretty much do, so instead of wasting money there, just buy books that had previous tests in them, and then go to your library and take them.

i think your score will undoubtedly be higher if you use one.

its lots of money though, and you could theoretically do everything they show you on your own. the same can be said for just about all learning though.

Actually, my gf taugth princeton review and it REALLY does work.. The average score boost for her class was 200 points.. That's a major deal.. It doesn't help you study.. You still have to study.. It just teaches you little tricks and strategies.. It's a little expensive but worth it if you want to boost your score.. I heard that Kaplan is less effective but still worth a try..

I took a Princeton review one since they offered it for free at my summer school. It actually made my score go down by 50points, oops. Not that there was that much room for improvement to begin with.

Personally I would practice with the practice tests myself and save the money. Once you get used to the layout of the questions it becomes easier. Though they do teach you a few tricks, they're nothing you can't figure out by yourself.

Depends on what your score is and how much you're looking to improve. I never took a class and I did pretty well. All you need to do is push yourself to sit down and study the material EVERY DAY
