I just recieved my scores, not very pleased with them. I was wondering how much other people's scores went up when they took the test a second time? Significant increase or not? Thanks.

Care to share your score? I think it truly depends on why a person takes it a second time. Most people I know improve because they look at the score and KNOW that some section should've scored higher, and perhaps they had a bad day. But if you don't know generally how well you should've done, then it's really hard to say if your retake will improve your score greatly.

What would you consider relatively crappy?

My SAT score made up for my cr@ppy GPA. :)

I went up ~300+ points from my first PSAT to my final score. I didn't study, but instead just took a WHOLE lot of practice SATs.

I never took an official test a second time, but practice ones and such have been much MUCH higher. I originally took the SAT's having never made it past geometry, so my math score was only 520. After finishing my college math series I pumped that up to a pleasing 740, although my verbal dropped from 790 to 770. So, 200 point increase overall.

Right now I'd kill for a 520 on the math, I did so bad, much worse than I thought. I never took the PSAT, so I had no idea what I would get.

Yeah, I'm thinking getting more sleep would have helped me, I think I got like 3-4 hours.

I always score VERY high on tests so I'm a little weird. I read a great book about the test itself...you know things like, percentages of answer distribution, common layouts of comprehension readings, things to watch for, how right and wrong answer percentages affect the overall score...that kind of stuff. I also made sure not to study at all the week before the test, that way I was relaxed for it. Probably the other big factor for me was how fast I read and answer...I always complete all the sections, never second guess myself, etc.

first time, 1230... 630 lit, 600 math... second time, 1260... 690 lit, 570 math... somewhat of a strange shift, but hey, it did the job for me

I always do well on tests too.

I took the ACT first and then the SAT a few weeks later. The night before the ACT I thought oh crap maybe I should prepare. Everybody else I knew had been busting their balls studying and taking prep classes so I went to the library and checked out a do-it-yourself-ACT book with included CD-ROM. I got though a page and a half of the first lesson before I said screw it and played video games for the rest of the night. I got a 32.

I completely blew off the SAT, at that point I just didn't care. I got a 1400 on that.

I suppose I could have retaken both of them to get a better score but I just didn't have to motivation to do it. Besides, both were good enough to get in to college.

Damn took the SATs like 4 years ago. Got 680 verbal and 600 math on my PSAT. On my first SAT I got a 1240 (620/620), I got a 1320 on my second try (710 math and 610 verbal) and I was too lazy to take it a third time :D

i'm supposing he said he got a 1502 on the show, and you are mocking the invalidity of his score?

i am mocking the show and the invalidity of his score.

He got a 1502? LMFAO! That show sucked so much. That school was so poor, it didn't even have a cafeteria, everybody ate hamburgers and fries at the Max.

First try: 1330
Second try: 1450

Don't pay for Kaplan or Princeton Review sessions but pick up one of their books if you haven't. They don't really help you learn math or verbal stuff, but they train you to take the test well. Good luck.
