What's that acually mean??? 21 months probation?

His sentence fell far short of the maximum sentence of five years in jail that computer sabotage carries under German law.

5 years max! That's still not enough. Should be 5 years minimum.

"We're pleased that the author of the Sasser worm has admitted responsibility for the damage he caused and is being held accountable," said Nancy Anderson, deputy general counsel at Microsoft.

Doesn't sounds like he's being held accountable to me 😕


Laws really need to catch up with technology & prosecuters need to go after virus writer hard!
THere's no incentive for virus writers not to release them to the internet if all they get is a slap on the wrist & a finger wag with "don't do that again".

"However, in the grand scheme of the virus world, it's the organised crime gangs, which are increasingly emerging to make stacks of money through targeted attacks, that should be dealt the harsh sentences, over and above the dumb teenagers."

How would some one make money writing a virus??? Company A pays some one to write a virus which will take down company B???

I think they might be refering to identity theft, pharming and what not.

There definately need to be stricter penalties on virus writeres IMO.

Examples like this are why virus writers will continue plodding ahead making life miserable for computer users, especially IT workers. They have little fear of retribution. Time for loser Johnny in his mother's basement to cook up another worldwide threat.

Not an expert but..

Except it works in a different way. He gets in trouble for anything else, whether it be shoplifting or murder, he's serving that 21 months.
