Anyone know when SAS2 and SATA3 hardware is going to be available through mainstream channels? i.e. the stuff with the 6GB/s bus?

Any links or roadmaps, even? I can't find any recent info.

Yeah. Those speeds would likely be more useful for SSD drives than for platter-based drives.

I've heard rumblings that it should be coming late this year, which makes me realistically think it will be early 2010 before it really shows up. Sorry, I don't remember where I read this...but at least it's better than the first estimates I heard, which was supposed to be late 2008.

The 6Gb/s increase is not intended for single drives so much as it is for SAS expanders. While one of the fastest SAS drive can hit about 140MB/sec and not even touch a 3Gb/sec bus, 127 SAS/SATA devices on a 6Gb/sec bus should be pretty well saturated.

While that is all true, you can bet they'll be selling SAS controllers as the next big thing, every "hardcore gamer," "system builder," and "enthusiast" will go nuts over onboard SAS stating that it's an absolute necessity to have for their 2x 10k rpm velociraptor (or equivalent) hard drives. :)
