Sarah Palin: Feds are ‘stockpiling bullets’ to use against Americans

It's scary to think that this woman came so close to being an old man's heart attack away from the presidency:

“If we are going to wet our proverbial pants over 0.3% in annual spending cuts when we’re running up trillion dollar annual deficits, then we’re done. Put a fork in us. We’re finished. We’re going to default eventually and that’s why the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest,” Palin wrote in a Facebook message Tuesday.

"The feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest". Sounds like something I used to read on survivalist web boards.

What a sad commentary that people like this are considered "leaders" by millions.

Remember when calling this woman a crazy idiot was attacked as sexism?

You mean that doesn't still happen?

I consider Sarah Palin the single best encapsulation of everything that is wrong with American society and politics right now. In a sane country, or this country during a sane time, she would have been laughed off the stage as soon as she stepped onto it. Instead, she's grifted her way to riches while millions still fawn over her as a "persecuted" person who would be a "good president".

I just want to go on the record saying that I would so smash that! She's hot!

I agree with her though that making a big deal about such a small budget cut is silly. We need to do more than a mere $110 billion a year.

Does she back up her statement that the feds are stockpiling bullets in case of civil unrest? Does anyone call her on this shit? I don't believe she has that Fox gig anymore so she's not really accountable to anyone and can say any shit she wants nowadays right?

She should seriously just get into porn and be done with it. Politics is not her thing.

I'm not sure where the numbers are coming from but with a standing army of something like 1,400,000 that's roughly 1000 bullets per soldier.

Apparently it's a plan for purchase over the next "four of five years". Which makes more sense, and apparently they supply local police now.

Foxnews
Online rumors about a big government munitions purchase are true, sort of.

The Homeland Security Department wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years. It says it needs them -- roughly the equivalent of five bullets for every person in the United States -- for law enforcement agents in training and on duty.

What else gives cause for 1.7 billion domestic bullets?

Maybe something like this?

Federal solicitations to buy the bullets are known as “strategic sourcing contracts,” which help the government get a low price for a big purchase, says Peggy Dixon, spokeswoman for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga . The training center and others like it run by the Homeland Security Department use as many as 15 million rounds every year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.

Dixon said one of the contracts would allow Homeland Security to buy up to 750 million rounds of ammunition over the next five years for its training facilities. The rounds are used for basic and advanced law enforcement training for federal law enforcement agencies under the department’s umbrella. The facilities also offer firearms training to tens of thousands of federal law enforcement officers. More than 90 federal agencies and 70,000 agents and officers used the department’s training center last year.

Thanks for the links.

So, basically, Sarah Palin is a hysterical fear-mongering moron. Nothing new there.

Yes I suppose she is.

The problem is that anyone who lacks the fine details on the matter are apt to jump to the same conclusion. I know I would / did. Even with the details in hand, there's that nagging gut instinct telling you that future civil unrest with our political bollocks and economic turmoil is simply a matter of time. So why wouldn't the DHS prepare for the inevitable?

It's a very easy thing to see as both natural and inescapable.

That nagging feeling is because everything political today is driven by fear. It's almost becoming part of our culture.

Palin is an idiot in the extreme. Some of the shit she spouts.....

I was glad she didn't get anywhere near the White House. Still, there are tons of other politicians I'd like to reassign their duties towards as well. No more law making for them, here's a shovel and barns full of shit. Get to work. I guess it's really not that much different than what they do now except currently their shit shoveling can do a whole lot of harm to others.

ftfy.

Oh, and...she's no more or less batshit than she's ever been... :|

To avoid confusion over what people have said, quotes in the Discussion Forum must be verbatim. I've restored the original and kept in what you "fixed it" to.

Thanks.

While I am not a Palin Fan, it does Beg the question why is the government and many of its agencies stock piling ammo? If you look at some of the recorded numbers of ammo being purchased its pretty staggering.

I'm making some assumptions based on available information here, but it would appear that DHS is now a federal / centralized supplier for local police. Essentially anyone that would use ammo now goes through them?

The large number is more explainable as a multi-year contract, especially if you consider they may be stockpiling for years of availability after purchase. We may be looking at something that's expected to last them a decade or more.

You very well could be spot on.

Please excuse this source, but one of those same suppliers has other weird stuff going on. you see they took a screenshot of a target that no longer exists on the website.

I don't mind a little folksy, populist approach. And I can appreciate a little rural horse sense. There is room for that in our political system. The problem is she's way out of her league for what she's trying to do and basically has some terrible ideas.

I just want to go on the record saying that I would so smash that! She's hot!

As long as she didn't open her trap, that voice would cause auto-limp in .2 seconds.

Not to mention that much of her folksy schtick is fabricated. I can look up the details, but she faked a lot of the whole "grizzly mom" personna.

Most Americans are too lazy to engage in civil unrest, especially if anything good is on the TV.

What a sad commentary that people like this are considered "leaders" by millions.

Democracy means any idiot can vote, and any idiot will.

I don't care for Sara Palin, I don't even think she's all that hot.

But 1.4 billion rounds, plus the type of rounds are a cause for concern IMO. They ain't 9mm for 'ordinary' cops to use at the range.

The Posse Comitatus Act doesn't allow military to used on US soil, so instead we've turned our police into a paramilitary force.

So, this one time I cannot criticize her harshly.

The military has nothing to do with it.

DHS/Homeland Security purchased the ammo.
