She's ugly on the outside, even uglier on the inside.

She signed bills that "protect" children from the truth, while also allowing them to work without their parent's permission. What a pile of feitd cow dung!

"...she signed a sweeping education bill that, among other things, bans talk of “gender identity, sexual orientation, and sexual reproduction” prior to fifth grade and curriculums that include critical race theory. How else is Sanders going to bat for kids? By loosening child labor laws, of course.

On Wednesday, the former White House press secretary signed the Youth Hiring Act of 2023, which says that children under 16 do not need to get permission from the Division of Labor to work or obtain an employment certificate verifying their age, work schedule, and written consent from a parent or guardian. In explaining Sanders’s thinking, her communications director claimed that previous permit requirements put an “arbitrary burden on parents.“ (It’s not actually clear how any of this was “arbitrary.”)"

What a "Christian" she is!

The uneducated family that works together in poverty can remain in poverty. #itswhatjesuswanted

Two types of christians, the majority who support hypocrites like Sanders, and the mousy minority who don't agree with her but don't have the courage to call her out for not actually being a christian.

Give me a decent human being. That's the entire point of the story of the Good Samaritan.

I think most of them are more culturally Christian than theologically Christian. Sure they claim otherwise but to me it mostly seems like a right wing identity where the actual tenets of the religion take back seat to cultural conservatism and grievance. That's what explains to me why 'Christians' so adamantly backed someone who is basically the seven deadly sins in human form. (yes I know they are mostly Protestants and the seven deadly sins are Catholic but still.)

I think she's perfectly Christian. What is more Christian than exploiting children?
Yep, she like most righties these days are Old Testament Christians, seems they stopped reading half way through. They love to mention Jesus but seem to like the Old Testament vengeful God more.

no true Scotsman
I don’t see how? I’m saying modern American Christians do not adhere closely to the plain, primary tenets of the religion they claim to follow. I personally think this is because most of them don’t actually believe in or care about what their preferred religion says.

I’m not trying to claim they aren’t Christians - I don’t even know what that would mean as self-identification would be the only way to go. I just think their Christianity is controlled by cultural solidarity instead of theological issues.

(I'll leave it as it is, don't want to derail the thread.)

The issue is the weakening of child labor laws in several red states. What are the other states...Iowa and one of the Carolinas? When is Christy Noam going to get on board?

If the red states put their children to work, there will be much less need for those filthy, unwashed illegal immigrants.

I'm totally down for the work thing. Been paying the IRS since I was 13. Got my social security credits done and over with before some people graduated college. For the record, I'm definitely not Christian.

Presumably you aren't saying child labor laws are a bad thing? Because this bill seems to make it very easy to evade them.

I'm just saying if someone wants to work, let them. Don't want to work, don't. I had friends start working even earlier than me.

Right, but how do we determine if the child 'wants' to work as opposed being coerced into working?

That's what these laws served to help do in the past.

Beats me. I've not often allowed people to talk me into anything -- well, perhaps if there's pussy involved but like that was well later.

My motivator for working was being (fiscally) poor and wanting more (stuff) out of life. If someone wasn't going to give it to me, I was going to get it myself.

Even as adults not many people want to work. People sometimes spend more time trying to get out of work when actually doing work would probably be a shortcut in the end.

People do a pretty good job at signaling and airing that they don't want to work. Adults. Kids. People. I would imagine an employer if gleaning that some youngster doesn't actually want to work would be compelled to release said kid or report to authorities they're possibly being forced or coerced to show up. I don't think we're going to end up with pictures of Chinese Nike sweatshops in the USA, realistically.

Hmm.
