My friend told me to buy one of these for my new PC. I used to see them on NewEgg.com but now they're nowhere. Even Pricewatch.com doesn't have any. What gives??
 
...you missed the boat by a year or so? That's a generation and a half back in video cards (X1800, X1900)... I don't know if anyone is still making new ones.

Newegg has a couple refurbs if you're desperate.

Are you looking for an AGP card? There are still plenty to choose from.
 
Nope, newegg doesn't even have any refurbed X850's (today, at least). They've got one overprices X800 GTO, which is nowhere near the performance of an X850XT.

edit: I meant in the AGP section.😉

X850XT refurbs?

I think my friend recommended this card for a reason, but I don't know what it was. Is that card overclockable or something?

Can anyone recommend a good mid-range card instead of the X850XT please?

Any 7600GT, or any X1600XT or X1650 Pro will cost roughly the same, they're just slightly slower. Not more than a few fps, but slower: link. And the reason your friend told you to buy Sapphire is because they make some of the best ATI cards, but are cheap.
