SAPPHIRE X850XT@ $390? any good?

I am thinking of getting this card or the 7800GTX. Now, I know the 7800GTX is clearly a better card but it is also $90 more for the lowest priced one that I don't feel like spending.

anyway, I had my mind set on an x850XT(pci-e) for some time and I would like ti get this card because it had a price drop and now it is $389. Now my qustion why is this one so much cheaper than the other x850XT's? Is this one not as good? I heard SAPPHIRE was a good brand. This has all the same core speed and memory speed at 520/1080. My rig is...

epox npa+ultra
1gig ram

My other rig has a 6800 AGP in it on an NF2 board. And I get lots of hiccups when I play on high in the most demanding games...

A lot of the high-end ATI cards have dropped significantly in price recently. Tigerdirect has a Connect3D PCI-e X800XL for $230 and a X850XT PE for $350 for example.

The extra money is well worth getting the 7800gtx. A good bit faster, more future proof (what with all those pipelines and high clocks) and it has shader model 3. So its a good deal more ready for next gen.

If that x850 was $300 or less, I'd buy it in an instant. However, when a new generation of cards are already being released, I would not spend much money on last gen cards, and I think $390 is asking too much.

Since your rig is PCI-E, forget it.
If it were AGP then it'd be a different story since the AGP vga lineup is less than rock solid atm in terms of release dates.

Wait til the 7800GTs drop in price and buy that. I suspect it won't take more than a month.

EDIT: I also see that you have an X800XL. There is pretty much no point in you buying a new VGA unless it is a 7800GTX at this point unless you've got an abundance of money of which I would like some.

scour ebay you might find a good deal on some cards. i saw an X800 XT PE misadvertised as an X800 Pro go for $212, a different X800 XT PE go for $232, a 6800 Ultra go for $320 (kinda expensive), an X850 XT PE is going to end up around same in the low-mid 300s. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5229064204 its at 300 right now)

these were AGP though.

NewEgg has some cheap X800 Pro Vivo PCI-e cards refurbished. i think some are borderline $200 range, and you can bios flash them to X800 XT PE status.

over 350 i would not pay for a new graphics card. the 7800gtx is only going to be worth it maybe in SLI when it will stack up to the next generation cards based on that core, and on the new ATI R500+ (similar to the Xbox360/PS3 in terms of pipelines/processing power).

Meh, your X800XL is still good.

Get one of the nVidia 7800s or if they release a 7600 something, that one.

The X850XT just isn't enough of an upgrade IMO.

judgeing by the core clock on the x850xt it does seem a bit faster. The only true difference is the 24 pipelines and the higher memory clock. I don't see How the 7800Gt can own the x850XT... I need to see some benchies...

There are 0 reasons to go with the X850 series. The X800XL and the deal on the X800XTPE are awesome. The X850XTPE is a horrible price/performance cost. 6800GT, X800XL, and the X800XTPE are all much better cards for the money you spend.

Now, i would wait a week or so, until the 7800GT prices fall, and jump on that. Outperforms all of last generation, and is going to be selling for MSRP 450 so probably 399.

DARQ MX, i suggest you read up on the 7800GTX before saying it is merely 50mhz faster core and stuff. YOu really need to know what we are talking about to get anything out of this/

The 7800GTX has 24 Pipelines or 6 Quads (Nvidia name for them) the 6800GT or Ultra has 4 Quads I think the 850XT PE also has 16 Pipelines.

So right their with the 7800 GTX you have 50% increase in Pixels per Clockcycle. So if you forget about all other Features you would see that the 850XTPE would have to be 50% Faster then core of the 7800GTX. This is what is going to suck with the r520, if they can only produce it with 16 pipelines then they would need to run it at 675 Just to tie the 7800GTX, For Nvidia every 2 MHz equals a 3 MHZ increase the r520 would have to be to tie it.

So if Nvidia can get the 7800 to 550MHz (Since they are hitting 500MHz pretty easy I think this number is highly possible) the R520 would have to hit 825 just to tie it. This means that Nvidia I think could easily cover the R520 release.

Sorry a little off topic there, So in comparison to piplines the 7800 GTX can handle 50% more traffice per clock then a the 6800U or 850XT, the 7800GT is 25% better. From their you can easily compare the Core speeds and Memory speeds (although from what i here the the GTX doesn't seem to need all of the memory bandwidth it has).
