I've been keeping a close eye on these cards since they're a decently cheap card that's good for unlocking and overclocking. I'm not too sure, but are these flashable to x850 XX (XX meaning whatever, pro, xt, etc)?

x800GT0 to x8X0 pro/xt/xtpe mod
this card can come with ither a r430 or a r480 core depending on what core you have will determine what you can mod the card to

r430 (x800xl) core: If you have this core then you should be able to flash to a non vivo x800xl

(you will discover if any of your pipes are unlockable once you flash)

for this mod use the moded flashrom - instructions are at the bottom of the


r480 (x850) core: If you have this core then you should be able to flash to a non vivo x850xt with moded ram clocks/timeings (contact me and ill help you make one) if you want a xtpe it will also need to be moded for 2.0ns ram and slower ram clocks

Btw, no ram moding is needed if you have 1.6ns ram

(you will discover if any of your pipes are unlockable once you flash)

my brother has this card and I'm wondering how do you get the most out of it, clocking and OC. I've searched for guides, and only found the one for the 480 core not this one.
 
Looks like a good deal. thinking about jumping on this one...

Do you need after market cooler with flash?

If flashing reveals visual anomolies, will cooling remove the anomolies, or need to flash bacK?
 
These can be unlocked to 16 pipes pretty easily, but do not OC very well since the one I ordered had R430. You will be unlocking to an X800XL, not X850XT PE (R480 core) in all likelihood.
 
I have the Connect 3D version with the R430 core and it easily clocks past X850XT PE speeds, it was not unlockable but with 12 pipes it still benches very close to the 850 PE.
 
Why not just pay 10 extra and get the xtasy 850xt at monarch.

I got the 850xt this past week and it comes with all the software on a disc to overclock it to your hearts content.

That's a PCI-E card, is it not? Deal here is for AGP...
 
I used ATI tool utility to try to overclock last night. The thing went up about 20 mhz and then the screen shut off. I've overclocked other ATI cards and I've seen visual anomolies before the entire screen turned off. I will try to overclock the memory later but it doesnt look like it will be possible to overclock this card much regardless.

I've read through the site above and I'm still a little hesitant to do this bios flashing. I don't really see the exact bios that this card requires there, and I just want to be sure that I'm doing the right thing. Plus, I want to make sure that I don't F-up my card.

If anyone has a direct link or more instructions on how to do this for the concerned consumer (like myself) I would appreciate it. If this card unlocks to an XL I will be very very happy.

First of all, do I have to look at my GPU's stepping? That is something I don't understand.

I flashed my bios and everything was extremely easy. Apparently it works; it registers as 16 pipes with ATI Tool. I used the file located here:
http://www.xmission.com/~theholmboy/FlashCDX800GTOAGPR430.zip

It is a bootable CD image that has both the unlocked bios and the standard bios in case you want to rollback.

I played a game for about 5 minutes at high settings, no visual artifacts. Looks like it worked and worked well. I guess this means I have an "under-clocked" x800xl. I'm curious as to what the benchmarks are for this card, are there any links for mod-benchmarks?

update: playing games for an hour now, no problems! Works great!

The GTO2 with power connector (NOT the green PCB version) is the one that's a guaranteed x850xt unlock+overclock.
