rage3d and ati tool both say it's running at memory/core 500/500 when I try to raise the memory to 1000 like it's suppose to be at it instantly crashes. do I need to return this for a new one? It also crashes with extended use, like when I play a game.

Those are the correct speeds for a XT. 1000Mhz is the effective speed because it is DDR memory. Here is a link to the ATI website. Compare the XT against another card and look at the memory clock it states as 500Mhz.

well I feel stupid now, heh. well, on the subject I have trouble with it. my computer will hard crash when playing games, or sometimes even when just sitting at the desktop. when I restart windows says it was caused by the x800 xt. is there any way to check if there's errors? when I use ati tool and scan for artifacts it hard crashes about 10 minutes in should I just return it?

edit:it runs at 32/29 gpu/chip says ati tool

I don't know what your operating system is but if it is Windows XP, you should look in the event viewer for errors pertaining to you graphics card. To get to the event viewer go to the control panel, then administrative tools, then computer management. Check the system and and application events. If there is no clues there then most likey it is a hardware problem. Your power supply could be the problem. Please provide a basic rundown of what your system is composed of.

I have a amd 64, 3500 the .13 process one. MSI "K8N Neo2 Platinum" NVIDIA nForce3 ULTRA Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU. sapphire x800 xt. Thermaltake W0014 Silent Purepower 480W. Corsair Value Select (Dual Pack) 184 Pin 512MBx2 DDR PC-3200. SILVERSTONE TEMJIN Series "SST-TJ06-B"

what am I suppose to be looking for in the event viewer? I see a few red x's but is there anything in particular I am suppose to be looking at or would you like me to post what all of them say?

Well I was going to have you look the descriptions of the errors (red x's) that are not from the source "service control manager." You would be looking for any error relating to you graphics subsystem. Is this card new to your system and if so was it stable before? The W0014 Silent Purepower PSU only has 18A on the +12v rail. Most users of MSI K8N Neo2 (or any NForce3 based Motherboard) recommend a power supply with at least 24A on the +12v rail. This motherboard is powerhungry by itself and the X800 XT uses quite a bit of power also. We need someone who owns this board to shed some light on the subject.

It's a new card, I didn't have any problems the first day, or two but the third day it started happening. I don't see any of the errors relateing to the graphics. if it is the power supply which one would you suggest that isn't too pricey?

The power supply is critical to system stability. You should get the best you can afford. I usually recommend Antec power supplies, but they can be costly. If you are on a budget this 450W Aspire power supply has 30A on the +12v rail and is a good value at 50 dollars.

I don't think ATItool works well with the X800 line. Just bump is up slightly and scan for errors, don't try the "find max" feature.
