at that price, perhaps not. i have it but it wont achieve high clocks without a better cooling system, at least where i am in Hong Kong. so expect to pay on top of that for a ATi Silencer 5/Zalman VF-700. In your position id get a 7800GT as it would last longer. anyway good luck with your decision ;)

I'd say it's worth it as long as it's under $250. I havent heard of anyone not being able to unlock the pipes, and many ppl reach x850xt speeds on stock cooling, some even reach PE speeds. The next card up is a 7800gt, which still goes for around $330, and it's not that much faster, plus with all the IQ issues I keep hearing about I'm not so excited about the GT.

lol. I'm curious if the price jumps, just like magic once it's in stock again.

QFT.

At $199 and below it is of questionable value. At $250 and above the 7800GT is the logical choice by a mile.

Only if you rarely replace your card and only if you game at high resolutions. If you buy a new card every year or 18 months and game at 1280x1024 you might want to save the $100 - I know I will

the success rate on the gto2 by sapphire has been 100%

the only card that has been hit or miss is the connect3d gto... these have been found as well to mod to x800xtpe's.

the C3d card is less than 185 at the egg. $185 for a potential x800xtpe is a pretty darn good deal.

And if you can get a 7800gt for $290, that would be much better :)
I don't usually respong to video card arguments, but you're just plain wrong.

My GTO2 is running at 520/540. X850XT speed.
6208 in 3DMark05.
What more could you ask for out of a $199 card?
The 7800GT scores about 500 marks better benchmark-wise.
Is that worth another 100 bucks?
An 8% performance increase for 33% more money?
