Sapphire x800 GTO - AGP/256Meg Issues

Recently upgraded from a dying ATi 9700 Pro to a Sapphire x800GTO AGP/256Meg, and have been having problems running games.

When I play a game full screen (I've tried EverQuest II, Prince of Persia: 2 Thrones, Quake 4, and a couple others) you'll see flickering polygons and occasionally you'll see that your UI misdraws slightly. It's odd because in most of these games if you switch to windowed mode, the problem goes away.

So wondering if this is an issue with the card, or something else (thought it might be the RAM, which I haven't played around with yet).

Motherboard: DFI LanParty UT (nVidia nForce3 250Gb)
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3000+ (Sck. 754)
RAM: 2 sticks, 512Meg DDR-SDRAM PC3200
Video Card: Sapphire RADEON X800 GTO AGP (256Meg)
PSU: Enermax EG465P-VE - 3.3V-35A - 5V-35A - 12V-33A
Monitor (connection used): Analog CRT
Hard drives: 1-120Gb PATA, Seagate (ST3120026A)
Optical Drives: 2-_NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG - TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1212
Additional PCI cards: SB Audigy 2 ZS, LC82C168 Fast Ethernet Adapter
Number of fans present: CPU (AMD Standard), 2 PSU, 1 CASE

Video Card Drivers in Use: ATi Catalyst 5.13 (also tried 5.2, same problems)
Motherboard Drivers Used: nForce 5.11

Played around with Fast Writes and AGP bus speed, no effect.

I'm playing Quake 4, and after a while the game will stop, and sometimes it'll recover, but i'll shortly afterwards get a VPU Recovery message stating that the card stopped responding, send error report, etc. It first time it stopped, the display turned off after a few seconds and I had to reset the computer to restore the system.

I had a similar problem with my ATi9700, can't recall how I fixed it, I believe the solution was to run Catalyst 05.2, but I'm not sure if this driver will work with this newer chipset.

Can someone tell me if this is the video card or possibly something else? Since I can RMA the video card (hopefully), if there's any suspect that the video card is at fault, I'd like to know, soon.

Has anyone had experience with nForce3 250Gb chipsets just NOT working correctly with ATi cards? would I be better of trading for a nVidia card, do they tend to be more compatible? I've never had a troublefree experience with this motherboard and first an ATi 9700 pro and now this card.

Thanks in advance,
A.
