How does that x1950pro dual compare to your eVGA 8800GTS (650/1000) ??

Would they be equal or is the 8800gts faster?

I ask because the price of the 8800gts 320 is down to about $250 at newegg and buy.com, but the x1950pro dual is over $350 according to the article.

Since you have one, and he article doesn't include the 8800gts 320, can you add your thoughts or experience? compared to the article benchmarks?

Performs somewhere in between a single X1950XTX and X1900XTX Crossfire.

This card is way too late.

LOL, that card is huge... makes the 8800gtx look small in comparison. Too late anyways.

http://xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/msi8800gts-640.html

Read that review and look at the 320mb scores. At high resolutions the 320mb loses badly. Now the 640mb card is a bit better than the X1950XTX usually but the Dual card is somewhere between the X1950XTX and X1900 CF...but can lose out to a 8800GTX in some games.

So considering the above info, I would say purely for price/performance, the DUAL card would be better but it is BIG and probably runs hot...plus new ATI cards are coming out so I would not bother with this card.

If you don't run at high resolutions, the 320mb should be fine....but I think you should wait a bit till the new ATI cards come out to see what's on offer.

Wow, way to copy NVIDIA. What next a DirectX 10 card that uses "stream processors" :D

Yeah it's not far behind the 8800 GTX, & far cheaper (assuming mentioned price is correct).

But i hate dual card configs, whether on one PCB, two, or whatever.
If it's SLI or CF, i tend to believe in staying away.

Actually 3DFX did it before NVidia.

And what ever happened to 3DFX?

You said ATI copied NVidia...they didn't. If anything they copied 3DFx. The idea wasn't NVIdia's originally so whether 3DFx was bought or not is irrelevant.

You can't copy something if you own it.

The IDEA originated with 3DFx. I never actually said NVidia copied 3DFx. I said if ATI copied anyone, it was 3DFx. I suppose it depends on your point of view...and I have mine.

And just to let you know that NVidia does copy as well:

What is relevant is that Super AA was introduced first into Crossfire and then nVidia followed suit with SLI AA.

We can also list things like 16xAF, gamma-corrected AA, SGMS, etc which ATi had first and then nVidia implemented.

The nature of competition is that vendors will copy the better ideas from each other.

I know how it is...Wreckage had to get in his daily smart a$$ comment. I fell for it...blah blah blah...let's move on. Can't be bothered continuing with this argument.

At first I was highly skeptical of this card, but after reviewing the benchmarks I'd say that if the price drops to below $300 its a pretty good deal for the money... I'd still like to see a comparision to the 640mb GTS though.

I'd definitely want to see 640MB GTS comparison. From the look of the benchmarks, the performance is right on par with 8800 GTS 640MB levels (a bit below 8800GTX). So, with 640MB GTS going for ~ $400, it's about $50 price delta for DX10 support. Interesting product, if not a "hot buy".

I personally don't think the driver issues are worth the hassle of a crossfire in a box solution, but at that price point this is fairly competitive with the stuff it stacks up against.

Just be careful, it will get outdated much faster...
Otherwise, a "hot buy"

If this card was available 6 months ago for under $400 it would have given the g80 cards a serious run for their money. But with the r600 being launched soon it doesn't seem like a good buy at this time.

Now that super-sampling is back with the G80 series I wouldn't bother with this card.
