If you like nvidia, why aren't you considering a 7900GT? They oc like crazy and roughly match the X1800XT with a moderate oc. With an extreme (but doable) oc, they match 7900GTX/X1900XTperformance levels.

The 7900GT's cost substantially more for similar performance and they have problems that are common.

Indeed. Why people are willing to pay more for worse performance (slightly) just because it's nVidia is beyond me. X1800XT>7900GT for less :S

I can run pretty much every single game at maximum settings, high res, and with anti aliasing/anisotropic filtering. There are some games that cannot have all of that, but those are few and far between.

If I got a high end card now, then I'd probobly get like the 8800GT, sub ultimate, when the 7800GTX came out I almost got it, but couldn't justify spending so much on it when the 7800GT was near top performance for around $400(Relatively cheap at the time).

It's not the performance hit so much is the fact that I don't want to risk getting a bad card from nvidia.

I'm an Nvidia fan at heart and I've seemed to have problems with every ati driver I've ever used, the hack for the 7900GT is a possibility too.

I'd go for a X1800XT easily, I would even vs the x1900xt for that price. Though with a res of 1920x1200 I have to get high end...

It was a 9550 about a year ago the driver installation failed the first time, after it did work horrible behavior went on with the card, this was the same case with a couple of 9200s I used. Nvidia's drivers have always installed perfectly first time and worked perfectly all the time.

i have bee into computers for over a decade now and i didn't use any item that in the past has given me trouble, well i wouldn't use any hdd as i have had failures with all of them, ram, again most of the major brands have given me issues at one time or another, etc. i think you know where i am going with this. i would do a x1800xt in a heartbeat due to the current price/performance advantage it has over the 78-7900s.

As of now, I think I'm going to order the X1800XT tonight or tomorow night before the sale is off for that item, because it's more likely faster than a 7900GT and the IQ is definatly better with an ATI card, I used to like ati at a time, maybe I just got a few bad cards from them, those cards were all low end and this is a high end card so it might be diffrent.
