Hi guys, I have been reading all the posts on here and im am having some issues with my card. I bought mine from the egg to replace 2 EVGA 9800GTX in SLi I had. Thing is the card is great but seems to have a over heating problem. The card I got I am pretty sure is the Ver. 1 PN: 288-1E140-100SA. Any how, I build my own computers and I have never had any heating problems with cards before this one. It Idles at around 35C but when I get on to play WoW it jumps up to 50C and I get video lockup!! Oh and thats at 100% fan!! WTF!!! Same with COD 2, ME2, Stalker, and the such...
I have cleaned it and downloaded the latest drivers and still get this problem. Should I try and take it apart and re apply therm grease and see if that helps? I am not sure if I can send it back for a RMA since its been about 6 months. Is there anyone that might know what the deal is, my ventilation in case is not the issue since all my cables are hidden and routed, not my first rodeo. Anyone have any sugestions for me on this issue? I hate to scrap it and go back to a Nvidia and get a 470GTX.

50C is not hot... my 4890 will typically hit over 70C when gaming.

I kinda doubt it's the overclocked E8400, but check to make sure it's stable.

If the 5870 is indeed defective... you should still have 6 months of warranty coverage left... I'm not sure though, you'll just have to check.

The overclock is stable, I havnt had issues there at all. My main concern is that at 50-52C and 100% fan it will lock up on me. If I watch my temps and they get to say 52C, BAMMM!!! Lock Up!! I have never seen this before. I have seen many posts stating they can get up to 70C with no problems. This just annoy's me when I am in a raid and all the sudden I get screen freeze. I have done everthing but send it back ( which I would like to avoid if I can )

Those temperatures are excellent, the 100% fan is odd though.

Good chance the card is defective, RMA it.

Hopefully you are under the 30 day window from date of purchase ? If so, then RMA back to whoever you bought it from.

50C is NOT hot. It's not a cooling problem. More likely that you're seeing lockups at the temperature merely because that's the hardest your card is working.

Set your computer back to stock and try to run it.
