Sapphire Radeon X850XT v. 7600GT

Haven't found any thing comparing these two cards to each other. Right now I can get the x850xt for under $100 at Newegg. The 7600gt is $50 or so more, is it worth the 50% extra in price? I guess the big advantage of going with the 7600gt is that I can ad an SLI motherboard and then a second 7600gt in the future.

Open GL games, the 7600GT reign supreme, requires less power and somewhat quiet.

Vertex shaders and games overall (especially oblivion,FEAR, D3D games) X850XT is your best bet. It's fairly big size and requires a good amount of power and especially it has an exhaust fan (a big plus). Open GL games, it's okay.

I based this on my own experience..since I play on both x850xt agp and 7600GT KO

Don't think it's worth the extra $50, but that's just my opinion.

If single slot, less heat and less power is a concern for you then the 7600gt might be worth the extra $50. But if pure bang for buck is most important then x850xt it is.

Who with any sense would SLI a midrange card? SLI is for those not satisfied with the performance of the ultra-high end cards. Otherwise it's better just to go for a single faster solution.

I dunno...I SLI'd two 6200's a while back for a total of $100. It was pretty cool, even though I couldn't get it completely working in most games due to the mods required to get the cards recognized as SLI capable 😛

But like Wreckage said...either are valid options. You either save $50, or you pay more but get nicer features in a more convenient package.

The idea on getting SLI is that I can spend $150 on a 7600gt today and then a year or so from now as it starts to show its age I can upgrade to a SLI motherboard and then add another 7600gt, which will be cheap then, and still have a decent machine.

Of course in a year from now everyone will be buying DirectX10 cards, so who knows if I would ever get around to the second card.

That's just wishful thinking. It's been a while since 7900GT and GTX launched, yet the price of 7800GT and GTX's are still the same or higher than their 7900 counterpart.

that seems to work for ATi cards . .. they get cheaper as time goes on . . .but nVidia controls their supply much more strictly . .. . your 7600gt will likely be OOS next year and /or just as expensive. 😛

Yes, because no way will you find one used on the cheap a year from now 😉

I briefly had an X850XT. It was large, heavy and noisy, but a fantastic performer for the $90 price it is AR today. This is a great card capable of dealing with new games at satisfactory settings, assuming you have a power supply beefy enough to feed it.

It's $90. Just stop thinking about it and buy it. Unless you're running Linux you'll be very happy.

Any one have an idea if the x850xt will run in my little Gateway? Specs say it is only a 300w power supply. I am certainly not going to replace the PSU for just a graphic card, I'll go with something else first. Plus it is a new machine, why buy it and then replace all the parts...

I have a X850XTPE @ 600/600 and I can play just about every game with pretty good frame rate. So i would go with X850XT unless you play alot of Open GL games.
