I bought a new computer by parts just for resell. My own pc is quite similar to this one, both are running i5 2500k's, miine has an Asus gtx560, and the other one the mentioned card in the title. I installed 3 different ati catalyst drivers, they crash. In the desktop, idling, you click something and then bum drivers crash and recover. I thought it might been the psu, logisys 575W which is pretty cheap, but then I decided to test it in my own pc, it has an antec 550w psu, and it runs the GTX560 perfectly. After installing the drivers and rebooting, same exact issue, like a carbon copy. DOA card?? The seller stated like new in open box. The box indeed is used but lightly. The card is in excellent physical condition. My question again DOA, or what else it is?

First, make sure you download the official 12.1 Catalyst drivers directly from AMD's website.

Second, uninstall (through Control Panel->Programs) any ATI Catalyst drivers you currently have on the computer.

Third, install and run ATIMan Uninstaller: http://www.mediafire.com/?sja6d1z3t2ld6as That will remove any remaining traces of ATI drivers. If you want to be extra thorough, run Driver Sweeper (http://phyxion.net/item/driver-sweeper.html) and CCleaner's registry cleaner (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner) afterward.

Finally, reboot your computer and install the video card drivers.

If you are still experiencing crashes after these steps, it's most likely NOT driver related, and you'll have to troubleshoot the hardware. For that, download GPU-Z (http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2101/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.5.9.html), and use it to check reference clocks and temperatures. Default clock speeds should be 900MHz core and 1050MHz memory, and idle temperatures should be between 30C-45C (depending on the monitor configuration and other system variables).

I have a pair of the same exact video cards (in CrossFireX) and one of them was very finicky. I ruled out the drivers, and found the idle temperatures to be over 50C; I ended up removing the heatsink, removing all the stock thermal compound (which was poorly applied) and applying my own. Idle temps dropped by 10C and I didn't have any more issues with the card.

I did all those driver install procedures, it didn't work. I used driver sweeper and downloaded the drivers directly from the and site. I checked in the and catalyst software the performance of the card, clocks at 900 and memory in its correct values. In hwmonitor temps are in the low 40s. So far no solution. I don't think it is power because my GTX560 is overclocked and should drain even more watts than this card.
