I got in on this yesterday as well. Original deal was listed at techbargains. Good deal, no trouble! I was going to hold out for a 4870 w/1gb ram for around $150 but the prices for those just don't seem to be falling that fast (still hovering around the $200-220 mark).

This 4850 is pretty good and has an aftermarket cooler. Yeah it's sapphire but who cares. $107?!?!? that's insane for this amount of performance.

I was really tempted to get 2 for $214 and SLI 🙂

this is a great deal...the cheapest ive seen for a 4850 and the hs fan on this unit is good quality, not like the reference coolers that use to be on all of them.

This is an oversimplification but...

It rapes it

and then looks for its sister, as long as you have enuf cpu (>3.5ghz c2d)...

hardly "rapes it" and def doesnt look for its sister. Unless you call 4fps an amazing improvement...

or 7fps...

2fps higher....

oh man this really shows how much better the 4850 is.. a whopping .9 fps!

In some cases it actually does destroy the 8800gt, but most of the time the difference is negligible to almost non existent.

i have both cards, and the bmks don't seem do justice...

i don't play the games, but the kids say that the 4850 is much smoother; boosts the minimum frame rate; 'looks' better; handles AA in games where the 8800gt gets bogged...

these are subjective measurements, of course, but with the amount of time my spawn spend on the pc i have to believe that their perrceptions are valid...

8800gt sli is pretty good, though... i consolidated 2 of my 8800gt's (when i got my cheap 4850's) into a box and it sure seems like they've fixed a bunch of the scaling issues (but it's still a little problematic in some games)... awaiting the $199 q6700 to replace the 3.0ghz e4500 in that box... ought to let the gt's fly...
