Hey guys

i have a Sapphire HD 5870, got it when it first came out

My question is, can anyone show me good aftermarket coolers for this card that fit?

oh yeah and anything under $70 for an aftermarket fan would be great

Problem with my card is that its getting older and hotter. i have the fan set to 75% on catalyst. with games i get temps of almost 80c (78c to be exact).
i also hear cracking inside, like the heatsink is coming off or unsticking.

also getting overheating issues (bluescreens) not all the time, i dont even get artifacts. this is very strange. it mostly happened when i started playing GW2, it reached a very Temps.

catalyst version 12.6 and 12.8
Current: 12.8

Maybe part of the plastic is hitting the fan and preventing the fan from doing it's cooling job fully?

Are you saying that, just over time, the cooling performance has gotten worse with your card, that it can't keep the card cool as well as it did when you first got the card?

maybe your cooler is clogged with dust/hair?

i always keep the card clean, nothing is bothering the fan, when it heats up, card cracks a bit, sounds like the thermal compound is un-sticking or something like that.

I'd recommend taking the card apart the reapplying the thermal paste.

The cracking noise you are talking about is definitely not normal and I doubt it is the thermal paste. When you have the heatsink off check for anything in the fan and double check that the fan wire isn't in the way.

If reapplying thermal paste and dust cleaning doesn't end up helping,

I had that exact same card for a couple of years and I always thought the cooler was great on it. Well, not great but certainly more than adequate. I overclocked it and it still never got hot. Never got loud either. Honestly, that's one of my favorite video cards I've ever owned. I would still be using it too if an xClio PSU didn't go bad and burn up the motherboard and video card.

took the fan out and cleaned it up and added thermal paste, seemed to help a bit
