It's solid. It's a prime choice, some alternatives would be the vapor-x, DD, PCS+. I'd take the cheapest among them. The TRI-X is a solid card anyway.

Here's a review.

Yep. Whichever is cheapest of those three.

PCS+ is best at removing heat IME (massive heatsink), but fans need to be tweaked to stay quiet (they try and keep card temps very low and thus make too much noise).

In default the Tri-x is quietest IME.

i have a tri-x and it was pretty awesome. quiet and fast at all eyecandy settings you could want. you didn't list a screen res, but i'll assume it's not some super crazy multi-monitor setup so this is plenty of card.

Nobody has mentioned it yet, but be sure that whichever card you buy will fit in your case.
The Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC is one of the longer 290's at 12" (305mm) long.
I can confirm that this is correct since I own a Tri-x.

But, If you look at the chart on the techpowerup link, DO NOT trust those lengths!
It says the PowerColor PCS+ R9 290 is 10.5" but it is actually 11.75" when measured from exhaust to end of fan shroud from what Ive read elsewhere.
So the info for card length posted on the techpowerup chart doesn't always include the fan shroud length.

So when checking length, be sure and gather info from a few different sources or ask someone who actually owns the card for an accurate measurement of the entire card including fan shroud.

EDIT: Here are some length comparisons against the Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x you asked about.
(not my videos, they were just found doing a quick youtube search)
XFX Double Dissipation vs Sapphire Tri-X
Windforce vs Tri-X
Vapor-X R9 290 vs Tri-X R9 290

I have two Sapphire 290x Tri-X OC cards. Love them. Yes, they are pricey. That is their only down side.

I bought my Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X for @$290 used from ebay and love it. Overpriced? Not when you consider it has one of the best air coolers out there and will run all day at 1000Mhz without throttling. Plus it's very quiet. EXCELLENT card.

Get a Tri-X if the price is right - you won't be disappointed! Great card - worth the $400 I paid for it many months ago! :)
