9800 Pro ! for sure.. but if your straped for cash i guess you would hafta settle for the 9700 Pro Either card should be fine! and both cards are better value then the 9800XT and FX5950 in the high end arena !

9800P is generally 10-15% faster than 9700P. You decide if the extra performance is worth the extra money. The 9700P seems to be the better deal, provided it hits your minimum acceptable framerates.

umm, the 9700Pro is or should be a bargain card by now. Especially with $200 9800Pro's. ;)

Why buy a 9700 pro refurb for $160 when you can get a new 9800 pro for 212? Unless $40 is a huge amot of $$$ for you, doesnt make sense.
Oh, I just got the 9800 pro myself :)

Yup, I am upgrading from a 4200 also.
I was going to wait for the sub 200 myslef (if it happens) and it may. But my bday is in 2 weeks and my wife kept asking me what I wanted, so figured now was a good as time as any :)
Should have it tomorrow ;-).
1495 on 3dmark203 on my 4200 last night. Can't wait to break 6k :) and see how XIII and some other games look compared to the 4200.

9700=open gl 1.3
9800=open gl 2.0

OpenGL 2.0? Are the final specs even released yet? What does 9800 support that is not supported by the 9700?

UPDATE: I just ran GLview and it shows the Cat 4.2 drivers 100% in compliance with my AIW 9700.

v1.1(100% - 2/2)
v1.2(100% -11/11)
v1.3(100% -9/9)
v1.4(100% - 15/15)
v1.5(100% - 6/6)
v2.0(OpenGL SL)(100% - 4/4)

Looks to me that 9700 is Open GL 1.5 compliant and 100% compliant with OpenGL Shading Language for OpenGL 2.0.

9700 pro still is a great card , but I agree get a 9800 pro .
specially when it's only around $200 us nowadays , even though there's only 15% performance difference, it's still a great deal. that extra 15% will make a difference in more newer games coming out.
back then when my friend upgraded from g4ti4200 for $160 to g4ti4600 for $300 we thought it was a good deal even though performance difference was only 15-20%

Umm, that's a $52 difference, and last I checked, $52 can go quite a ways towards some other upgrade. If $$$ is not an issue though, I agree that the 9800 pro is better.
