Just installed this card tonight. I replaced my AIW 8500DV with it because I'm building a computer for a home theater, and need the 8500 for that. Anyway this Sapphire card will only do 2x, the 8500 was at 4x. I've tried everything short of a OS re-install. My system:
Asus a7v (1008 bios ver)
1.4G T-bird
512M Ram
Win XP Pro
Soundblaster Live
80G Maxtor on ATA 100
30G Maxtor on ATA 100
52x CDRom
TDK 4/8/32 CDRW
CTX PR700 Monitor (trinitron)
I've tried the drivers that came with the card (6.14's i think) and the new Catalyst drivers. Updated the VIA drivers. I can force it to 4x, but I get garbage on the monitor at the login screen. I tried re-seating the card and noticed a 'warm' odor comming from it. Didn't smell burnt, just kinda warm. The card was not hot to the touch.
Since my 8500 worked fine at 4x I'm thinking maybe this card is defective. Is there anything I'm missing? I wouldn't think I'd need to do an OS re-do because these cards run on the same drivers. At least I got it from Newegg so I should be able to return it if I need to. Perfomance wise it's about the same as the 8500. It just bugs me that it won't do 4x, and the performance should be better than the 8500.
