Hi,
I just picked up a Sapphire 6950 2GB OC Edition on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102987), but am having second thoughts as I don't want a really power hungry system. The power consumption numbers for standard 6950s look good to me, but I can't seem to find any info on what the OC edition uses. It looks to be a 20MHz overclock of the 6950 Dirt 3 edition. What type of a wattage increase does that normally lead to in cards?

I checked a review on Overclocker's Hub of the 6950 Dirt 3 card and it seemed to go way up in power consumption once overclocked: http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd6950/16.htm
It was overclocked to 900Mhz and the idle consumption went up 15 watts while the underload consumption went up by 63 watts.

Do any of you have experience with the 6950 OC edition or know where I could find more information on its power consumption?

Thanks.

as it is a small factory OC, it shouldnt make much difference unless they upped the voltage a bunch for some reason. As long as your PSU is good for the stock card, ur fine.

Thanks for the follow-up. It's actually not the power-supply I'm worried about (I'm planning on using a 600W), I just don't want to waste energy especially when I'm just browsing the web or doing non-graphics intensive tasks. That's why I went with an AMD card from that generation over NVIDIA 560ti/570. I also plan on using it with an Ivy Bridge CPU so I'm hoping to figure out a way to switch to the integrated graphics most of the time and only use the GPU during gaming.
