My rig:

-Asus A7N8X Rev 1007
-AMD Athalon 2700+
-1 Gig Corsair XMS PC3200 400 DDR
-Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro
-Dell 1800 UltraSharp lcd
-Win XP Home
-Enermax 420 p/s

My Problem

I installed a Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro in my machine back in April to replace an older ATI Radeon 9700 Pro AIW. I typically play online games and run average visual settings to compensate for any lag I encounter. So I have been happily gaming online until I go out and buy EQII, a very graphically intensive game.

As I try tweaking my settings, I find myself horribly laggy and decide to take a peak in my system. Sure enough, I notice a problem. My Ati catalyst drivers, in particular SmartGart, does not recognize AGP.

-First, I goto my bios enable both Fastwrite and AGP, check my agp aperature is set to 128megs. No change
-Secondly, I uninstall, reinstall my drivers. No change.
-I upgrade my bios to 1007, incase there were any old faulty bugs. No change.

I then try to run with smartgart installed, using ATI's faq. Instead of manually loading the drivers, I uninstalled them, then upon reboot, let winxp tell me there are new devices found and I direct them to the drivers. No change.

So, I reinstalled the latest drivers. I then, removed the video card and reset it back in the agp slot. No change.

I am at a loss and after 4hours of creative thinking, I am drawing a blank. The solution is probably very simple but I must be overlooking it. Anyone offer any advice?[

Have you installed your nForce chipset drivers? Try reinstalling those.

Did you try reinstalling the Nvidia AGP driver(Gart),I would also try Driver Cleaner and fresh download of ATI 4.10s from here .

Driver Cleaner (Note: follow the "readme file" instructions and run in safe mode) .

Btw if you go with the new CCC(44.2MB download) version you need Net Framework 1.1 installed.

Installing the nForce chipset drivers seems to have done the trick. Both dxdiag and catalyst drivers seem to recognize it now. Thank you -very- much for your help. I am gunna install the 4.10's now per Mem's advice after cleaning out my drivers. Thank you both again for pinpointing the problem so quickly. Goes to show, it's a huge learning process b/c I would have never thought of that :)
