I was thinkign of unlocking a gto2 and then saw some gt's for 300-325$. The saphire is 240 and is the extra 70 or so worth it?

Dude, if you have the money, just get the 7800. It will be MUCH better in the long run, and it's better now anyways.

edit: didn't see the AR price, that is a good deal.

Buy a x800GTO that unlocks and overclocks or get the 7800gt. The GTO^2 doesn't fall in a very good price point any more.

Here is my response to a different thread asking about the C3D X800GTO vs 7800GT.

Who cares about Far Cry and HL2 performance now?

Yes, the modded GTO will be good enough for games that were created over a year ago.

What about new games like FEAR and QUake 4?? Even BF2 shows the weakness of the X850XTPE.

Quake 4 Performance

1600x1200 no aa

7800GT = 85.3 fps
X850XTPE = 58.3 fps

1600x1200 4xAA

7800GT = 48.5 fps
X850XTPE = 31.8 fps

= pwned

FEAR performance

1600x1200 no aa

7800GT = 40 fps (<---Playable)
X850XTPE = 29 fps (<--- Not playable)

1600x1200 4x AA doesn't really matter, since even a 512mb GTX only gets 31fps.

BF2 Performance

1600x1200 no aa

7800GT = 54.6 fps
X850XTPE = 37.1 fps

1600x1200 4xAA

7800GT = 37.2 fps (<--- Playable)
X850XTPE = 27.7 fps (<--- Not Playable)

Add in the fact that 7800GTs will overclock to near GTX speeds pretty frequently, the 7800GT is the best bang for the buck for playing next gen games.

If you're gonna be playing Far Cry and HL2 until your next upgrade, then by all means get the GTO. If you want to play any upcoming titles at high res with eye candy, then your ONLY options are a GeForce 7 series or X1800 series card.

GTO mod is becoming obsolete fast.
