Santa Rosa,CA (or near by) Apartments?

I'm graduating from school this June as an EE and will be moving to the Santa Rosa, CA area for work. Company is off of Fountan Valley Pkwy, so it won't be hard to guess who I'll be working for 😉

Does anybody have any recommendations (or places I should stay away from) for 1 bedroom apartments? Directly in Santa Rosa would be best, though I will consider the nearby areas as well.

Buying for 300K+ isn't quite feasable yet since I'm fresh out of school with only one income (GF is graduating as well, but planning on Pharm school, so she won't be done for another few years and won't be living with me until then).

$1000/mo or less would be best, though I will consider up to 1100 if the place is that good.

Plusses: W/D or W/D hookups.

Oh, and by the way, Agilent is still hiring for any EE or Computer Engineers looking for jobs. They'll fly you out there for an interview if you get through the phone interviews (non behavioral).

Good company. There's a nice set of apts off pkwy up by the golf course. I think it's about $1500 for 2BD/2BA. You'd have no commute. See what a 1BD goes for.

I saw some brand new ones right off of fountaingrove on the hill (Overlook at fountaingrove). They look really nice but the rent starts at $1460 for the 1 bedrooms.

Are these the ones you're thinking of?

I have a friend who's moving into the 2 BD but I personally haven't seen them. All I know is they're off PKWY and are pretty close to the golf course up there. Thomas Lake Rd or whatever it's called is nearby. I would assume it's by the new stop light they put in last year. I don't live up there anymore so I can't really help you more than that.

There's no such thing as affordable housing anywhere in the Bay area, and Santa Rosa is considered to be the north bay...(far north, but...) At least you're not looking at SF rents...

Good luck with the relocation and landing the job. That part of California is extremely expensive, but I am sure that if you look hard enough, you'll be able to find a descent place (for the time being) in your budget.

I'm coming from an area (Poway, CA) that costs about 6% more, so it's actually better by just a bit. Wish I was making the same salary in a state that you could buy a house for 150-200K!

It's sad for us new grads considering my parents morgage will be less than the rent I will be paying. A $500,000 loan to buy a 2-3 bedroom house would have a morgage payment of over $3,000 a month, crazy. If houses were around $250,000, I could buy one straight out of college!

Went house hunting up there with my parents 2 years ago. Made my jaw drop. If you plan on buying in fountaingrove you're not getting anything decent, anything outside of the cookie cutter mold, for less than a million or million and a half.

Even though most of my work for the past 10 or so years has been in the bay area, I continue to live in Modesto, and commute. Long day, considering it's usually somewhere between 80-100 miles each way, (then work 10+ hours/day) but when I bought my house 6 yrs ago, I got a new 4 br. for $130K...Now, around $400K, but that's still pretty cheap for almost anywhere that's commutable to San Fran...A lot of the folks I worked with, had those kind of mortgages...$3000+...don't know how they do it...I bitch enough about $1000/month!
