I had the SB 5.1 now Audigy Platinum, and never experienced a problem with them on a VIA Chipset.
Running on an Abit KR7A Raid right now with no problems.

I beleive that issue is dead with the newer Via chipsets.

The Santa Cruz does sound good though, I just installed one on my buddies computer.

I'd say it depends on how much money you have to spend.
I picked up a Santa Cruz for nearly $100, and Im a happy camper :)

But Im using with a real amp(and old but good Marantz) and a couple of relatively good speakers, I dont know how much of a difference there will be with Z560's or similar speakers.

With PC speakers it's hard to tell the difference between the two. Hooking them up to a decent hi-fi reveals a lot more detail.
