A couple of people on a forum that I moderate are having trouble getting the game Thief 2
to play properly with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. I was planning to buy one, but now I am not
so sure. Without support of Thief 2, the card would be useless to me.
The problem appears to be lack of support for "hardware acceleration" and EAX. One person reports
that she can turn on those options within the game, but in either case the sound is very, very low in volume compared
to not using hardware support (software rendering). A second says that he cannot enable hardwar acceleration at all.
However, an ealier version of the Game, Thief The Dark Project, works fine for both people. Creative and Aureal cards
support both hardware acceleration and EAX in Thief 2 with no problem, so there seems to be some uniqe mismatch.
Does anyone here have any experience with Thief 2 and the Santa Cruz? Even if you haven't please help
if you have any ideas what could be going wrong.
It's not clear to me how A3D and EAX are implemented in the Santa Cruz. I am guessing that both are done
in firmware rather than hardware, but to the game looking at the card, firmware and hardware should look the same,
shouldn't they? Or does the game look for an actual piece of hardware?
Any help would be appreciated.
