At least there isn't a team called Oilers anymore.

I am thinking of where Anaheim would put up a new stadium, nothing is coming to mind.

Read the article... says across the street from Angels stadium.
hissy fit...anyway, are you in the area. Across the street is kind of vague.

Its too late, they holding a press conference later today.

naming santa clara.

keeping the name though. of SF Niners.

When you start calling press conferences and publish a letter on the team website about the problems and your intentions its pass the point of leverage.

Plus the Niners have offices in Santa Clara anyhow. It'll piss some the city if they use them as leverage. Compared to other teams that used other cities as leverage they had no connection with them.

I am willing ot bet that city of SF made tons of demand on what they want at the site. Even if they approved all that, the niners will ahve to deal with some nutjob environmentalist

Wouldn't make sense for the 49ers to go anywhere. Their name wouldn't make sense -- it's like the Utah Jazz: Music is outlawed here, but when we stole the Jazz from Nawlins I guess they didn't take that into consideration. They should have changed the name to the Utah Bible Thumpers or something.

I suppose Santa Clara wouldn't be that bad of an option, so long as they keep the team offices in SF and keep the name SF.

Edit:

Actually, the 49ers could come to Utah and it would make sense. We have the "Days of '49" as our statehood celebration...

I don't know too many of the details, but
building a privately financed stadium
that
The city was not going to contribute any money to the stadium but was willing to possibly help with some of the infrastructure costs.

sounds a lot better then what the Kings were trying to get over here in Sacramento.

600-800 million for infrastructure costs would make me reconsider building it in SF too.

Yeah, there's a commercial with the Maloof's stating their net worth to be 1 billion dollars and they're tyring to get Sacramento County to eat most of the cost for the stadium where they get almost all the profits. Yeeeaaahhhh.

York said the team would not change its name under any circumstances.

"Nothing will persuade us to change the name of the San Francisco 49ers, one of the most storied brands in the world of sports," he said.

Doesn't sound like a big deal to. So, if they move to a new stadium 30 miles away so what?

Reminds me of the Miami Dolphins, which are no longer in Miami (Dade County) at the Orange Bowl, but instead at Joe Robbie Stadium (or whatever they're calling it now) near the border of Dade & Broward Counties.

This could be cool, might be the final nudge that pushes BART into the south bay, or at least to Mountain View so I don't have to take VTA->Caltrain->BART to the city or SFO. Make things more convenient.

They better not raise our taxes to build this new stadium though...
