If OD doesn't count mp3 players as tech items, you can use the coupon from this thread to make it $4.99 AR.

Also their FAR item this week is Sharp Scientific Calculator Model EL-501VB SKU 776501 $6.99 in-store less $7 MIR

Most mp3 players have 2 modes that they can connect to a computer, MTP mode and MSC mode.
MTP mode will list it on windows under 'other' devices, MSC mode will list it as a device with removable storage.
With MSC mode, you can drag-and-drop files to and from the player.
With MTP mode, you get to use sandisk software to control the device.

There is a setting to put it in MSC mode, but you can't get to the setting via the menu,
because the 'usb' option is missing. According to the manual, it is between 'reset all' and 'format'.
It simply isn't on my player.

However, you can force the devide into MSC mode. Turn it off, switch the hold switch on, hold down
rewind for 5+ seconds, while rewind is pressed, plug in the usb cable to the computer. I tried this
force mode 5 times, and it didn't work. The sandisk support person told me to return the unit and
get another one. So far, I am unimpressed. It is not documented to do video, only audio files.

I am off to get it exchanged. This force mode thing isn't documented anywhere; the support
guy explained it to me. It certainly is inexpensive, and perhaps most people won't desire
to drag and drop music directly - but I do.

Pretty steep rebate but OD's rebate is reliable, however.
Bought a laptop not long ago with $150 rebate.
The rebate check was mailed approx 4 weeks later.
Tempting to get one for my s/o...

Got new unit and it acted just like old unit. I flashed the bios (with sandisk's tech support) and I can now drag-and-drop files into the player!
Now to see if I can actually play files...

Thanks Allisolm. Nice, hefty rebate though =/
I got the C240 (same unit, 1gb) a few weeks ago from buy.com for 19.99 no rebate. I strongly recommend getting a MicroSD card for this. It's well worth it. It should recognize the 4gb cards (I am currently using a 2gb I got for $10).

I have to say that I really like this little thing. I have 2 older ipods and I use this more. I also had a ipod shuffle but got too annoyed at the lack of a screen. I am very A.D.D. when I listen to music.

rockbox software makes this little c240 SOOOO much better. I can make and transfer playlists, tons of options, interchangeable themes (the stock sandisk one is hard to see), even play games on it now. I highly suggest you try rockbox (free open source). If you don't like it uninstalling is as easy as deleting 1 single folder. I only have 1 problem with the sandisk player. I want a clip like a shuffle. If anyone knows of an aftermarket one lemme know. Thanks.

FYI. My local OD would not honor the coupon. Says the system "declined" to accept the coupon because after the rebate, the price is < than $60 stated on the coupon. Didn't feel like wasting time to correct the error of their way, so I just left.

I may be wrong, but the c250 can't read SDHC media which means 2GB microSD cards are the maximum that is supported by the Sansa firmware.

Rockbox is a different story, though. The c250 v1 players can be loaded with Rockbox, but not the v2 players. Rockbox does support SDHC media.

I tried and got the same result, I think it's because the system knows you are buying technology items, so the total is less than $60. However, my clerk said that he will give it to me anyway, so it worked out...

My friends have been unsuccessful at getting the $15 coupon to work.

As for sdhc, they work with the v2 (printed on the outside in tiny letters) players. This is different than the firmware version.
My firmware is v1, yet the case says v2 on the outside. Haven't tried sdhc yet.
There is also v3 firmware a friend got (and it doesn't work with rockbox).
I loaded rockbox without incident...
