All of that RAM was 1333 and I'm running 1600 with the Intel XMS profile. The other reason was that it was a matched quad set.
Both Intel and Corsair said that could, under some circumstances and If I got unlucky, that mismatch MIGHT introduce stability issues if there were any errata changes in any of the four sticks, even though they might all have the same stock numbers and rated timings.

Just curious, if you were going to replace all the RAM anyway, why does it matter if your old RAM is 1600? It's not like there is a performance difference between the two.

The real reason was just sticking with a matched set of 4 sticks and avoiding any possible aggravation on the off-chance I encountered any weirdness, and I have had nothing but happy experiences with Corsair in Intel boards.

As long as you understand that it wasn't entirely rational, I'm fine with that. :awe: But seriously, the kits with 4 sticks are the same as buying two 2 stick kits with the same SKU. Anyways, I'm sure you will like it! 🙂
