These new Intel CPU's came out for sale on the 2nd of Jan here in Australia ^_^

Its been running great. awesome CPU and a very a nice upgrade from my E8200 @ 2.6Ghz ( I had ram issues so no overclocking for that cpu )

Anyways here are the parts i used. with a recycled 1tb hard drive and blu ray drive.

Intel i7 2600 - @ 4.2Ghz Turbo Mode ( max overclock on non k )
Gigabyte P67A-UD3R
Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
HIS Radeon HD6950 2GB
Corsair HX650 Power supply
Corsair Force Series 120GB SSD

Wow, that's a real bird you got there on your desk isn't it? Where's the shield for falling 'bird bombs'?!! ;-)

Why do you think i have a glass table! :) the poops whipe right off with a tissue, oh and unfortunately no shield would work as it shits where it sits.

LOL! Yeah, great case by the way! But that's a sharp lookin' rig - congrats with being on the cool 'bleading' edge!

So it appears that the 2600K comes with the "small" Intel cooler in the box. There was speculation on another thread that the 2600k came with the larger metal cooler.

OP has the non-K model, or at least that's how I read it.

Whoops you're correct....I read right past that. I think I've been so focused on the K's that I just assume EVERYONE is going to buy either a 2500K or 2600K. My bad....

Awesome! How do you like your F120 SSD? I bought one for my old rig which then immediately went bad so I never had a chance to use it which is why I'll be picking up an SB and MB on Sunday.

I had no idea a non-K could overclock so high. 4.2 is nothing to sneeze at.

What's the temps like on that cooler?

Drive is pretty fast but i ended up changing my game installs back to a normal HDD because even 120gb isnt enough and i dont wanna reduce its life span.

I take it everyone in Au has a pet birdie, nice. Is your case one of the Fractal Design ones?

In Aus the retailers are price gouging i7 2600k versions of the CPU up to about $70 over non k

I even saw one retailer selling a i7 2600k for $499AU and seeing as the Aussie dollar is 1 to 1 with the US its kinda a huge mark up, but i think it should settle down in a few months.

Either way im happy i have a stable pc again, old one was starting to crash one a week.

We also use the metric system where 1 + 1 = 2mm and not 25.4 + 25.4 = 2" lol mathematicaly redonkulous haha

42c under load... i do have a few fans, still overall the system noise is very low.... probably due to all the sound deading stuff built into the case

Yeah, as stated in my post :) its the latest version R3.

and nope, not everyone in aus has a bird, only people who impulse shop and happen to pic one up a pet shop without thinking.

Unlike my other impulse buys i cant just toss it into the cupboard and forget about it. lol

lol 4.2ghz on that rinky dink HSF?? Damn Intel ...., good job.

if you think about it, stock is 3.8Ghz so the jump up 400Mhz isnt huge plus its only at load will it pop up to 4.2

My CPU idles at 1600Mhz and stays at that even when watching HD content. only when playing games will it jump up to 4.2 turbo mode.

I'm wondering just how much those idle clocks are letting Intel skimp on the heatsinks though. What are the load temps like?

Load temps are 42c after 2+ hours on supreme commander 2 thats very CPU intensive
It idles at 30 and thats on a wormish day, im in shorts and a tshirt :)

I think this 32nm process is very efficient for power to heat.
